Buying Furniture in Panama

Our adventure this week was to buy furniture and appliances for a new condo we have built for ourselves in Panama.

Since we are located about an hour east of the city of David, we don’t really know our way around there yet. However, we have discovered an excellent furniture store called EP Furniture on Avenida Obaldia.

They have a large showroom featuring everything from office furniture to bedroom suites, dining sets, couches, everything you need to outfit a house. We actually purchased enough furniture to outfit two condos in a six unit building, plus an office for under $7000 and the customer service was great. Thank you, Lyneth.

They charge a small fee ($40) for delivery to Las Lajas which is less than most other places quoted.

We purchased our appliances from Casa Gala, a national chain with at least three stores in David.
Tomorrow is delivery day, so I hope to have lots of pictures next time.

Another minor adventure was an eye exam with a view to changing the lenses in my reading glasses. The ones I have from Canada have been impossible to keep clean and scratch free. The optometrist here told me that is because the anti-glare has been wearing off (I’ve had them 18 months). The exam and the replacement lenses cost me $135 - far less than I would have paid in BC. The exam alone would have been more than $70.

We also (eventually) discovered OfficeCenter, downtown on Avenida Segunda, where we were able to find file folders, paperclips, a paper cutter, notepads, etc.

Driving in downtown David is not for the faint of heart, especially on the Saturday before a national holiday!

BTW, en route to David we stopped in San Lorenzo to buy two pineapples from a roadside stand. San Lorenzo is the location of extensive pineapple fields. We paid 50 cents for each one. They are juicy and delicious.
